Paddle and Plantation Tour,

Louisiana, USA

Interested in both nature and culture? This tour, within an hour of New Orleans, combines the best of both. First we visit the historic Whitney Plantation, founded in 1752, located along the Mississippi. After 16 years and $8 million worth of renovations, Whitney reopened its gates in 2014. It is the only museum in America dedicated to telling the story of the African slave trade and what life was like for the people who worked on these plantations. After an amazing lunch of  gumbo, alligator bites, frog legs, or soft shell crab PoBoy, we kayak through cypress swamps with our naturalist guide. This 2 hour paddle tour of secluded swamps will bring you through moss-draped Cypress trees where we may find turtles, snakes, alligators, great blue heron and possibly the largest woodpecker in North America.
